Lindblad Expeditions

Hike into jungles, kayak through fjords, or snorkel with sea lions on a small ship cruise. Life-changing travel experiences in the world’s wildest places for over 50 years. Conservation-Focused. Lindblad Nat Geo Cruises.

50 years ago Lars-Eric Lindblad was the first person to bring travelers to some of the most exotic parts of the world including Antarctica, Arctic Svalbard, Galápagos, Easter Island, the Amazon, Papua New Guinea, the Seychelles, China, and Bhutan — all driven by his fervent belief that creating first-hand encounters with the world’s most remote and pristine destinations would foster not only an understanding and appreciation for these places, but also a lifelong commitment to their preservation.

In 1979, Sven founded Special Expeditions, a division of Lindblad Travel, enabling the company to further its goal of offering innovative and educational travel expeditions with a marine focus. Small-ship cruises expanded to Costa Rica, Baja California and Alaska, allowing greater discoveries of secluded islands, hidden coves and remote expanses of sea.

Lindblad was first to…

  • create the epic expedition — in-depth and ambitious voyages into natural and human history — with ground-breaking 30+ day itineraries.
  • form an Alliance with National Geographic and rename ships to proudly carry the National Geographic name.
  • introduce kayaking to the Arctic, Antarctica, Galápagos, and the Upper Amazon (and we’re still the only company kayaking here).
  • reveal the wonders below the ocean with an unmatched undersea program.
  • offer an unparalleled photography initiative with a Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic certified photo instructor on each expedition and a National Geographic Photography Expert aboard every departure of National Geographic Endurance, National Geographic Resolution, National Geographic Explorer, and National Geographic Orion.
  • create a farm-to-table program in Galápagos, which is now being replicated in Alaska and beyond.
  • offer a robust Artisan Fund supporting artisans in the regions we visit through onboard Global Galleries and Markets.
  • partner with Terra Now, Purity Now™ for a “self-disinfecting” fleet.
